recently moved in?

the green eyed
big breasted (female) neighbor
tests the flavors of
my green eyed (male)
roommate.

the delivery man
eventually locates
the apartment;
no furniture
(we’ve been there a year).
chinese food, cigarettes,
and
New York Cheesecake.

the inquiries flow at
a feverish tempo
regarding our move-in
date
to
which
we have
no truthful reply
(what’s the fun in that)

the female neighbors
swim in the alligator
infested lake

the otter in the lake
backstrokes to
the sounds
of
our
neighbor’s
house music;
distracted,
it’s devoured
by the gator,
while
the neighbors
somehow
aren’t
bothered
by the 12-footer,
perhaps because they’ve
had one or
two
in their lifetime.

Books are destroyed.
Lives are ruined
Korea receives two
white guys.

but the apartment
carries the memories
of stories in its walls
and floors
and ceilings
and tiles

but not the furniture
because
materials
did not exist
in our land of
creativity:

only our souls to
bear the nakedness
of neighborly
intimacy and
eventual
awkwardness.

Recently moved back to the States after living 16 months in Vietnam. I write to remove the thoughts trapped in the cobwebs of my psyche before the spider envelopes me whole.
