formulaic life

I watch as you exit your house at the same time
every day
wearing your conventional white collar outfit
backing your
Altima out of your driveway
heading to the shitty ass job you’ve had for years
so that
you can support your life decisions:

spouse
kids
mortgage

I watch your facial expressions closely;
perhaps too closely,
but it saddens me and I want to end your
pain.

But I’m not up for serving a life sentence for murder
even though this would be considered a mercy killing
out in the
wild.

I can’t drink enough
to
begin
considering
living the life you chose.

But I’ll drink enough
to
begin
considering
ending
mine.
