the self-deprecating narcissist

i find peace in the chaos,
the orange and green colors
screaming at my eyes,
deafening my vision,
while i consider that i may
be, at best,
a fifth-rate writer,
navigating the prose
with a two decker,
attempting to avoid
the islands with eyes
that fall from the palm trees
and fire from the trunks
like bullets from an uzi
until i’m hit, sunk, and drowned,
staring at my reflection to the bottom
of the ocean; i should’ve learned to swim
if i was going to spend my life at sea, but
now i’ll be someone’s hunted treasure, just
like i always wanted to be.

Recently moved back to the States after living 16 months in Vietnam. I write to remove the thoughts trapped in the cobwebs of my psyche before the spider envelopes me whole.
